ABSTRACT

In our study, we aimed to evaluate the faciodental morphology of individuals with Hiperbrachycephal, Brachycephal, Mesocephal and Dolichocephal head types, regarding their natural head postures. The sample comprised of model casts and lateral cephalometric radiographs taken at the natural head position of 113 subjects at the age range of 19-29 years. Statistical evaluation was carried out by ANOVA and Duncan test. Our findings showed that the head types were not associated with faciodental morphology either in sagittal or vertical direction when evaluated using both intra and extracranial reference planes. The distance between true vertical plane and upperlower incisors and first molars were significantly increased in Dolichocephal head type group (p < 0.01). Also increased maxillary intercanine width and mandibular arch length were observed in this group. Dentoalveolar structures might be influenced by neuromuscular structures of head types and environmental factors.
