ABSTRACT

Orthodontists must begin to treat babies with cleft lip and palate immediately after birth. A primary objective of this therapy is guidance of the separated segments of maxillary alveolus into semblance of arch configuration. But, during this procedure the relationship between mandible and maxilla should be taken inconsideration. There are different types of early maxillary orthopedic appliances. In this article, the effects of Hotz type of preoperative appliances were evaluated in three babies who carried this appliance during their treatment of unilateral cleft lip and palate.
