The Effect of the Cross-bite on the Growth and Development of the Upper Jaw in the Individuals with Skeletal Class 1 Pattern In this study, the effect of anterior cross-bite on the growth and development of the upper jaw for individuals having skeletal Class 1 relationship has been invertigated at a period of one year. A total of 24 persons were examined; 12 persons having a skeletal Class 1 relationship and anterior cross-bite with skeletal age of 7 years and 7 months; another 12 persons having a skeletal Class 1 relationship and normal occlusion with skeletal age of 8 years. Two cephalometric radiographs of all individuals were taken for one year interval. Tracings of the cephalometric radiographs were made and the measurements for upper jaw were taken. At the end of one year, the dimension of N-ANS, PNS-A and G-PNS for the individuals having skeletal Class 1 and anterior cross-bite increased considerably. Depending on the growth and development, It was concluded that the difference between the variation of the SM dimension for individuals with normal occlusion and for the individuals with anterior cross-bite were found to be significant statistically.
