ABSTRACT

Surgery of the ramus of the mandible is routinly performed to correct a variety of dentofacial deformities. Subcondylar ramus osteotomy can performed either extraorally or intraorally. Extraoral appoach has advantages over the intraoral approach in that there is better visibilty an access to both the lateral and medial aspects of the ramus. This permits a more acurrate sectioning of the ramus. Moreover, in literature less postoperative nerve distrubances has been reported. A reduction genioplasty can be achived to decrease the size of the chin vertiaclly, or in both directions as determined by aesthetic and cephalometric criteria. In this paper a combination of subcondylar osteotmy and reduction genioplasty in class III has been presented.
