    ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the skeletal and dental changes occured during the treatment of Class II Division 1 malocclusions with extraction. The material consisted of 58 lateral cephalometric radiographs of 29 subjects. The treatment group comprised of pre and post treatment lateral cephalometric radiographs of 19 subjects treated (Edgewise technique) with the extractions of the four first premolars and the other 10 subjects were only observed without any orthodontic treatment. Twentyeight linear and angular measurements were performed on 58 lateral cephalometric radiographs of 29 subjects. The changes related to growth was eliminated and differences between treatment and control groups compared by 'Paired t-test". During the study period NL-ILs, NSL-ILs, ML-ILi, NSP-is, NSP-ii and overjet decreased in the treatment group, that were found to be statistically significant at level of p<0.001. However NSP-LGC, ILs-ILi, NSL-is, NSL-ss, NSL-ii, NSL-gn, NSL-UGC, NSL-LGC, at level of p<0.001 and NSP-UGC at level of p<0.01 increased in the same group, that were found to be statistically significant. The changes of NL-ILs, NSL-ILs, ML-ILi, NSP-is, NSP-ii, ILs-ILi and overjet measurements were found to be statistically significant at level of p<0.001, and the changes of NSL-ss, NSL-gn and overbite measurements were found to be statistically significant at level of pc0.05 when compared between the treatment and control groups. Edgewise technique is basically very efficient on the dentoalveolar structures.
