ABSTRACT

This study was undertaken to determine intraoral discomfort, discomfort in speaking, tongue soreness and changes in speech patterns in patients treated with lingual orthodontics. The study sample consisted of 30 adolescents and the following parameters were measured before the appliance placement (TO) and after 48 hours (T1), one week (T2), one month (T3) and three months (T4): a-) intraoral discomfort and discomfort in speaking, b-) tongue soreness and c-) changes in speech pattern. According to the results of this study intraoral discomfort was decreased in all patients after 48 hours. Discomfort in speech and changes in speech pattern were recovered at the end of 3 months Similiary soreness of the tongue was over in 3 months.
