ABSTRACT
The aim of this study is to investigate the reduction of crown size of maxillary and mandibular teeth in the cases with palatally displaced canines (PDC). The study was carried out on pretreatment dental casts of 35 patients (25 females and 10 males) whose unilateral maxillary canine teeth were palatally displaced. 35 patients (25 females and 10 males) who were similar in terms of age and have Class I occlusions were selected as the control group. In PDC and control groups, maximum mesiodistal crown size of maxillary and mandibular incisors, the first and the second premolars and the first molars were measured. Mann-Whitney U test was used to determine gender differences between in the PDC group. Since significant gender differences were confirmed, each gender was evaluated separately for comparing PDC and control groups. For the comparison of PDC and control groups Student's t-test for females and Mann Witney U test for males were performed. The results of this study showed that differences between PDC and control groups were not statistically significant in both sexes except for mandibular first molar (p<0,001). According to these results; it can be said that; in every PDC case there may not be tooth size changes in the other teeth, and environmental factors may also be taken into account as a cause for this anomaly.
