ABSTRACT
In the treatment of first bicuspids extraction cases with certain techniques, incisor retraction is realised following canine distalization. Specially, in maximum anchorage cases, retraction of anterior segments demand more on posterior anchorage. This treatment concept is still valid, however the difficultes in anchorage control was considered as major drawback. The purpose of this study is to introduce our technique on the “en masse” retraction of maxillary anterior teeth following first bicuspid extraction and discuss its effects after the presentation of two cases. The technique consists of the application of the extraoral traction on canines following banding of maxillary anterior teeth, to form them as mass. Advantages of our mechanic are as follows; 1. “Anterior Headgear” may have the advantage to retract anterior teeth without putting a lot of strain on posterior anchorage. 2. The adjustibility of outher bows in relation to premaxilla's center of resistance, enables effective desired movements. 3. Lack of cooperation does not resuit in anchorage loss. 4. Intrusion and torque control are also achieved in the course of anterior segment retraction. 5. More hygienic in comparison to full banded Systems. 6. Better tolerated by the patient. 7. Total treatment period is shorter when compared to the two stage retraction techniques.
